Museum - Rotonda di Palmieri

Painted in 1866, the plate represents some ladies resting at the rotunda ot the well-known Leghorn bath houses, from which extends the luminous horizon, accented by the strong contrast of the shady area in the foreground, thus achieving the effect of a wide-open horizon, nonetheless contained within the reduced dimensions of the painting.
This work is often cited as one of Fattori's greatest masterpieces, not only for its fresh immediacy and the attentive studiousness of its chromatic couplings, based on the principles of complementarity, but also for its compositional cut.
