IL COSMO MAGICO DI LEONARDO. L’ADORAZIONE DEI MAGI RESTAURATA

30,00

This volume is the catalogue of the exhibition held in Florence (Uffizi Gallery, 28 March – 24 September 2017). The largest panel painted by Leonardo is an unfinished work. Commissioned by the monks of the Church of San Donato a Scopeto, just outside Florence, in 1481, it was abandoned in 1482 when Leonardo moved to Milan. A few years later, the monks requested a version of the same subject, the Adoration of the Magi, from Filippino Lippi. Both works are now on display in the Uffizi, enabling an ideal comparison to be made. Leonardo’s panel is presented to the public again after six years of meticulous restoration, which has made it much more accessible and intelligible. The history of the painting and the results of the restoration, conducted by the Opificio delle Pietre Dure, are the main focus of the book that accompanies the exhibition and features, for the first time, stunning images of the “new” Adoration.
