POLYCHROMY IN ANCIENT SCULPTURE AND ARCHITECTURE

Two years after the important round table held in the prestigious Uffizi Gallerries and dedicated to the theme of polychromy in ancient sculpture and architecture, this publication gathers together essays by some of the greatest experts in the field.
From Etruscan tombs to Hellenistic sculptures across the Niobe group in the Uffizi, polychromy is investigated here from an artistic but also technical-scientific point of view: while some interventions narrate the history of prestigious masterpieces, others linger upon salvaging their splendid colours or are dedicated to the chemical analysis of the pigments.
Rounding off this rich volume is a very vast repertoire of images as well as charts and explanatory drawings.
