PIER FRANCESCO FOSCHI (1502-1567) PITTORE FIORENTINO
€32,00
This volume is published on the occasion of the first monographic exhibition dedicated to Pier Francesco Foschi (1502-1567).
A pupil of Andrea del Sarto and collaborator also of Pontormo, he had a long and successful career that reached its peak during the central decades of the 16th century. Despite his success during his lifetime, the artist fell into complete obscurity after his death. It was only in the 20th century, with the rediscovery of Mannerism and its protagonists, that his name re-emerged to the attention of scholars.
This catalogue, which presents forty of Foschi’s autograph works – including paintings and drawings – delves into the main aspects of his prolific activity, starting precisely from his training up to the commissions for large altarpieces and the numerous portraits, a genre in which he achieved considerable success. It is therefore an essential reference for understanding the artistic personality of this master and his role in the context of 16th-century Florentine painting.
