Fine resin reproduction of Hercules at Rest, a fine example of ancient Roman art. A handcrafted artefact made in Tuscany, it is a lost wax bronze casting on a ‘Verde Guatemala’ marble base.
The original work is housed in the courtyard of Palazzo Pitti.

Roman statue from the 2nd century AD in the courtyard of Palazzo Pitti, an example of the type of statue of which the most famous example is the Farnese Hercules. Hercules is depicted here in a relaxed moment, his club laid to rest and apples from the garden of the Hesperides in his left hand. The sculpture arrived in Florence in 1570 after having been found in Rome on the Palatine Hill. Grand Duke Cosimo I entrusted it to the sculptor Valerio Cioli, famous for the Bacchus Fountain in the Boboli Gardens, who restored it.
