TONY CRAGG AND HIS MONUMENTAL WORKS IN THE BOBOLI GARDENS

The series of exhibitions of contemporary sculpture at the Boboli Gardens in Florence continues, this time with one of the greatest names in the international field, Tony Cragg, one of the figures most open to the experimentation of the technical and formal possibilities of the plastic arts.
Since 1977 Cragg has lived and worked in Wuppertal, Germany, where he also founded the Waldfrieden Sculpture Park, a renowned contemporary sculpture centre in dialogue with nature.
The heart of his work is inspired by the generative phenomena of matter, with results of an almost late baroque virtuosity, with a strong tactile component.
The Boboli Gardens, therefore, become a fundamental stage of a personal creative commitment that investigates the relationship of the work of art with public space, a theme that has catalyzed the artist’s attention in recent years. Some of his monumental sculptures are now installed along New York’s Park Avenue.
The catalogue accompanies the exhibition of 16 works, which in the most diverse materials, from bronze to steel, from fibreglass to aluminium are well combined with the environment in which they are housed and summarize the style of Tony Cragg.
