Born in Florence in 1449, he was a politician, poet, patron and a collector. Thanks to his intelligence, culture and diplomatic skills, he became the guiding light of Italian politics. Passionate about art, literature and philosophy, he is remembered as one of the greatest art patrons in history. The ideal of the humanist prince is embodied in him. His club – frequented by intellectuals and artists such as Sandro Botticelli, Pico della Mirandola, Agnolo Poliziano and Marsilio Ficino – is still famous to this day. Lorenzo died in 1492 in his villa in Careggi.
